Premiering in 2005, Beauty Shop is the third movie in the Barbershop series, although it’s really more of a spin-off. The cast features a diverse crew of men and women including some very well known names in Hollywood like Queen Latifah.
The movie also stars Alicia Silverstone (of Clueless fame), Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings and a Funeral and every Loreal commercial), Alfre Woodard (more movies than I could possible mention but also Desperate Housewives and True Blood), Djimon Hounsou (Amistad, Gladiator, Soul Food, Blood Diamond), Adele Givens (Queens of Comedy), Della Reese (Touched by an Angel), Golden Brooks (of Girlfriends fame), Keshia Knight Pulliam (aka Rudy from The Cosby Show), Kevin Bacon (do I really need to describe?), Miss Laura Hayes (Queens of Comedy), Mena Suvari (American Pie, American Beauty), and Sherri Shepard (now on The View).
Even some of the smaller roles were also played by some now quite well known women including Octavia Spencer (The Help), Kimora Lee Simmons, and LisaRaye McCoy (All of Us).
I’ve watched this movie a countless number of times and can probably recite large parts of it line by line. I will readily admit that the movie as a whole does not live up to the acting chops of the majority of its cast members, but Queen Latifah delivers a solid performance. My suspicion is that this movie wasn’t made to be Oscar worthy but rather to generate laughs and to show how racial and ethnic tensions seem to melt away at the hair salon. Without doubt, this movie has some ridiculous and hilarious one liners.
So, what’s your #FavBeautyShopQuote… and I heard her say your momma!

I can honestly admit until Julian brought my attention to Beauty Shop, I was completely unaware of the ridiculous fabulocity of this movie.
